Catalonia, the greatest holidaymaker holiday resort in Spain in May, registered a month-on-month step up in inward bound tourers, with a total of 1.3 million.

The Balearic Islands was the 2nd higher ranking Spanish vacation resort in May, with 1.2 million incoming tourers, a month-on-month increase of 9.6 %. Furthermore, it was the vacation resort that recorded the top addition in absolute terms, with 104,000 more arrivals than in May 2010. Holland and the Great Britain were the leading emitting marketplaces contributing to this new inflow of holidaymakers.

Andalucia, with about 780,000 inbound tourers in May, read a 1 % month-on-month decline stemming from fewer holidaymakers from faraway markets. Yet, between January and May, the overall increment recorded amounts to 5.4 %.

The Canary Islands recorded a month-on-month growth of 12.9 %, with a total of 629,945 inbound tourers, principally deriving from holidaymakers from the UK. In accumulated terms, the increase came to 21.1 %.

The Area of Valencia, in turn, saw an gain in its incoming holidaymaker figures of 5.6 %, with the main additions hailing from inbound tourists from the Great Britain and the Norse Countries. Between January and May, the increase was 9 % in total.

As a final point the Region of Capital of Spain saw a month-on-month decline of 9.6 %, mainly due to a fall in inbound Italian holidaymakers. The decline for the first five calendar months of the year taken as a whole fell by 1.7 %.

Holidaymakers coming to Spain by aeroplane increased by 5.8 %, equated with a fall of 1.5 % for those getting by road.

As regards type of accommodation, hotel accommodation saw uttermost gain, with 10.3 %, equated with a drop of 7.1 % in non-hotel accommodation, representing those who rested in a second home or in a property owned by family or acquaintances.

Package tour showed up a substantial gain in May of 26.5 % likened with a fall of 4.2 % for those who preferred a less unionized form of vacation.
